Stanford University: The Japanese-occupied China Collection

Stanford University has just announced the launch of the online bibliography "The Japanese-occupied China Collection." This site provides detailed information about—and links to—an extensive collection of primary source materials, including publications primarily in the Chinese language and archival documents from the period of the Japanese occupation in China (1932–1945), now housed at Stanford University—primarily within the East Asia Library and the Hoover Institution.

By bringing together introductory overviews of key topics, highlights of rare and unique items, bibliographic data for the collection, and recommended scholarly readings on occupied China, this centralized resource aims to facilitate the discovery of primary sources and inspire new research questions and approaches in this increasingly vibrant field of wartime China studies.

This online bibliography is the result of a collaborative effort between Zhaohui Xue (Curator of the Chinese Collection at Stanford’s East Asia Library), Hsiao-ting Lin (Curator of the Modern China and Taiwan Collection at the Hoover Institution), and Jeremy E. Taylor (Professor of Modern History at the University of Nottingham). The project was generously supported by the David C. Weber Librarian’s Research Fund at Stanford University Libraries and the Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange.
