Zi Li Wan Bao (自立晚報, Independence Evening Post), founded in 1947, is the first Chinese language evening newspaper in Taiwan. It established a reputation as the sole pro-independence, pro-democracy newspaper during the period of martial law in Taiwan (1949-1987). This archive includes coverage of some important historical events, including the Zhongli anti-government protest (1977), the Kaohsiung press crackdown and subsequent incidents of state violence (1979), and the transition to democracy starting in 1987. Coverage is from 1947 to 1995.

Chōya Shinbun (朝野新聞) was a major Japanese newspaper published in Tokyo during the early and mid-Meiji periods. It is best known for its support of the Freedom and People’s Rights Movement. Coverage is from 1875-1889.
